Four academics have been sentenced to 15 months in prison; the announcement of the verdict has been suspended. Another academic has been sentenced to 2 years, 6 months in prison; the prison sentence of the academic has not been deferred.

While Tuna Kuyucu and İlker Birbil have been given deferred prison sentences of 15 months by the 27th Heavy Penal Court, Taylan Tarhan has been sentenced to 18 months and Nevin Zeynep Yelçe has been sentenced to 2 years, 6 months by the same court.

On 3 March 2019, the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice announced its first decision on an appeal against academics for signing the “We will not be party to this crime!” (Bu Suça Ortak Olmayacağız) peace petition prepared by Academics for Peace (Barış için Akademisyenler). In this ruling, the Court upheld an imprisonment sentence of one year and three months for Zübeyde Füsun Üstel, a political scientist retired from Galatasaray University. This ruling is the first to have exhausted all local remedies.

PhD student Nevim Borçin from Boğaziçi University and Dr. Lecturer Canay Şahin from Yıldız Technical University have been sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison. The pronouncement of both verdicts have been suspended.
