Aralarında Seyla Benhabib, Noam Chomsky, Etienne Balibar, Angela Davis, Bertell Ollman, Fredric Jameson, Warren Montag ve Saskia Sassen gibi isimlerin de bulunduğu yüzden fazla akademisyen Barış İçin Akademisyenler'e destek amacıyla kendilerini Ankara Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı'na ihbar ettiler.
Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’nden YÖK tarafından ihraç edilen Noemi Levy-Aksu’nun 30 ay hapis cezasına çaptırılmasının ve Barış Akademisyenlerine destek için aralarında Arat Dink’in de bulunduğu sanatçılar ve gazetecilerden kendilerini daha önce savcılığa ihbar edenlerin mahkeme önüne çıkarılmaya başlanmasının ardından, akademisyenler, dayanışma amacıyla e-posta yoluyla kendilerini 7 Temmuz'da savcılığa ihbar ettiler.
Şu ana kadar görülen davalarda, imza atılan ortak metin olan “Bu suça ortak olmayacağız” başlıklı barış bildirisiyle ilgili yargılamalarda akademisyenler hakkında farklı kararlar çıkmıştı. Noemi Levy-Aksu’nun geçtiğimiz haftalarda görülen davasında mahkeme Aksu'ya 30 ay hapis cezası verilmesi yönünde karar almıştı. Aynı zamanda kırka yakın akademisyene de ertelemesiz hapis cezaları verilmişti. Bu gelişmelere karşı Türkiye’deki akademik özgürlüklere destek amaçlı uluslararası pek çok kampanya düzenlenmişti.
Paris CNRS araştırma merkezinden dünyaca tanınmış aydın ve akademisyen Prof. Michael Löwy ve Paris VIII. Üniversitesi’nden Prof. Eleni Varikas 22 Haziran günü kendilerini e-posta aracılığıyla Ankara Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı’na ihbar etmişlerdi.
Son olarak, Prof. Fusün Üstel’in cezaevine girmesinin ardından 2000'den fazla akademisyen ve çeşitli kurumlar Türkiye’de akademik özgürlükleri hedef alan kurum ve üniversitelerle akademik işbirliğine son verme çağrısı yapmıştı. Hapiste tutulan Tuna Altınel için imza kampanyası ise hala devam etmekte. Öte yandan eklenmeye devam eden yeni davalarla birlikte yargılamalar da halen sürüyor.
Akademisyenlerin savcılığa gönderdiği ihbar mektubu ise şu şekilde:

Biz Noemi Levy-Aksu’nun‚ 10.01.2016 tarihinde açıklanan “Bu suça ortak olmayacağız” bildirisinin imzacısı olduğu için 30 ay hapis cezasına çaptırılması kararını protesto ediyoruz.
Bir barış çağrısı üzerinden getirilen ‘‘teröre destek verme’’ suçlaması absürt ve gülünçtür.
Bu bildirinin imzacısı olan binden fazla Türk vatandaşıyla dayanıştığımızı ve metni imzaladığımızı bildiririz. Noemi Levy-Aksu ile dayanışıyor ve bu bildirinin imzacısı olarak değerlendirilmeyi talep ediyoruz.
