Two academics from Boğaziçi University have had their second hearings and presented their statements of defence. The court board has rejected the request of the attorney Eyüboğlu for the extension of prosecution, allowed time for additional statements of defence and adjourned both hearings.
The trials of Academics for Peace have continued in İstanbul Çağlayan Courthouse at three different courts. 12 academics from Boğaziçi University have had their first hearings while an academic from Kadir Has University has had his second hearing.
On 5 June 2018, the hearing of two members of Academics for Peace was held in Istanbul’s 32nd High Criminal Court. One of the academics had requested the removal of a judge from the panel on the basis of bias, but their request was refused. Both were charged with disseminating “terrorist propaganda” for having signed a peace petition drafted by Academics for Peace and sentenced to one year and three months in prison. One academic’s sentence was suspended; the other did not request that their sentence be suspended.
Prof. Dr. Büşra Ersanlı, who has been tried for having signed the declaration “We will not be a party to this crime”, has been sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison. The prison sentence of Ersanlı has not been deferred.

Seven academics from Boğaziçi University have had their second hearings. Presiding judge has argued with the attorney who stated that she would make a statement as to the announcement of the verdict later on and ordered the attorneys and the audience out of courtroom.
Five academics from Boğaziçi University have had their first hearings at the 29th Heavy Penal Court. The court board chaired by Mustafa Çakar has ruled that the files of two cases held today be combined with the files of two other cases that it has previously combined.
Six academics from Boğaziçi University have had their first hearings. The court board has rejected the requests that the academics be immediately acquitted and their cases be combined. All hearings have been adjourned to later dates.

In a petition made public in January 2016, 2212 academics and researchers from Turkey, supported by several hundred international academics—called on the Turkish government to abide by the domestic and international law and to return to the peace process that had been interrupted in July 2015. After the petition was made public, the signatories were specifically targeted by President Erdoğan and subsequently attacked, threatened and became subject to administrative and criminal investigations. Some were arrested and kept in prison.
Nine academics from Boğaziçi University and two academics from İstanbul and Bahçeşehir Universities have had their first hearings. The requests that the files of the cases conducted separately be combined have been rejected by different courts on the same grounds.
Academics Gülşah Kurt and S.U., who have left Kadir Has University, have had their first hearings. While Kurt could not attend the hearing on the ground that she was abroad on duty, both hearings have been adjourned to October 2018.
